Kanbe’s Holistic Approach to Food Waste

Kanbe’s Markets works to save thousands of pounds of produce going to the landfill each day. We partner with local wholesalers and farms to rescue “ugly” landfill bound fruits and veggies and redirect them to one of the following paths:

  1. Fresh Food Partners - Grocery store quality produce is sent to corner stores, bodegas, and gas stations, making fresh produce more accessible to neighborhoods across Kansas City

  2. Hunger Relief Program - “Ugly” produce, think fruits and veggies with cosmetic imperfections, is donated to over 50 non-profits across 7 counties in Kansas and Missouri.

  3. Animal Rescues/Farms - Produce that is too squishy or juicy for people to eat are donated to our furry friends at a variety of local animal rescues and farms around the city!

  4. Compost - Any fruits and veggies that are not good for human or animal consumption are sent to be made into nutrient dense compost for farmers across the United States

All of the produce that enters Kanbe’s warehouse stays out of the landfill. That means less greenhouse gases in the air and more fresh produce going where it is needed most!
