Go Beyond Giving—Be a Catalyst for Change

Grassroots Growers is more than a monthly donor program—it’s a movement. Together, we’re deepening our understanding of food access, advocating for solutions, and planting the seeds for a food-secure future, one month at a time.

When we all chip in, we create something bigger than ourselves. Imagine the impact if everyone contributed what they could each month.

Hear From Our Grassroots Grower Community

Alyx Jacobs (Alyx Jacobs Repair) is a Kansas City–based textile repair artist and part of our Grassroots Growers community. Alyx offers local and mail-in services including alterations, mending, quilt repair, chainstitching, customs—and anything your heart desires.

At the core of Alyx’s work is a belief that one tear doesn’t mean the end. No garment is too far gone. A ripped pair of jeans can be the beginning of something new. Through repair and dyeing, Alyx helps give clothes a longer life while keeping them out of the landfill—mirroring the same care and intention behind food redirection.

“I didn’t realize how big of an impact $15 a month could make until I joined Grassroots Growers.”
“Diverting food and clothes from the landfill just gives new life back—to the clothes and to the food.”

If you want to chat through repair options or need a fitting, you can book a consultation with Alyx here!

Jess Woods is the co-owner of French Custard in Brookside and a proud member of our Grassroots Growers community. Alongside her partner Alex, Jess makes ice cream the old-fashioned way—using just milk, cream, eggs, and sugar, with no stabilizers or additives—because good food doesn’t need shortcuts.

Jess brings that same care to how she thinks about food waste and access. Through collaborations using redirected produce, French Custard transforms ingredients that might otherwise be overlooked—like extra-ripe bananas—into thoughtfully crafted flavors, proving that “imperfect” food still has incredible value.

“We have such an abundance of food in America, and yet many people don’t have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.”
“Joining Grassroots Growers has been such a meaningful thing to me—it feels good to know that as a small business owner, we can make a real difference.”

Check out French Custard, the ice creams made with our redirected produce, and our reel with Jess to hear more about why fresh food—and ice cream—should be for everyone.
