Kansas City community remember 9/11 by packing meals for community

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, Liz chose to mark the day with her hands. Liz is a table captain at the Kansas City 9/11 Day meal-packing event at T-Mobile Center, where more than 700 volunteers gathered to pack more than 193,000 meals for Kanbe’s Markets.

Sam and Andrea Moody just moved to Kansas City. Married six years, they could have spent their Friday off any way they wanted. Instead, they pulled up a seat at Liz’s table, packing meals shoulder to shoulder with a stranger.

For Andrea Moody, Sept. 11 is not a distant headline.

“I was on maternity leave at the time, but I worked for the airline industry, so it was really close,” Andrea Moody said.

Twenty-five years later, that memory still surfaces, and it’s part of why she showed up.

“It brings back a lot of emotion. Just wanna give back to the community,” Andrea Moody said.

Sam Moody said his reason for being there goes back to his own upbringing.
